Why File an Auto Insurance Claim?

Posted by admin  Published in Auto Insurance Claims

When you signed up for your auto insurance policy you signed up for the opportunity to make a claim any time that you were involved in an auto accident or any other event that caused damage to your vehicle. To make this process short and sweet we could easily say that the conversation is over and this is why you should file an auto insurance claim when you have the chance. However, this is not good enough for some people as the fear of rates going up keeps so many people from filing auto insurance claims. Beyond this, there are three other good reasons you should file an auto insurance claim listed below.

1. For your protection you should file an auto insurance claim when you are involved in any automobile accident. You may not know this, but your auto insurance policy will pay for the costs of defending you in court should you be sued by another party. This is a huge asset to have if you are pursued by another individual or insurance company for causing an auto accident. Be aware of the situation you are in and if it feels as if your financial future could be in jeopardy with a potential lawsuit you should file the claim. Again, get what you pay for with your auto insurance claim and don’t waste the money you have spent.

2. Keeping a record of what has happened to your vehicle and what you have been involved in is very important in order to protect yourself from future legal action. When you don’t report a claim to your auto insurance company it could be because you fear the potential jump in rates, but it could also appear that you are trying to avoid your insurance company and not inform them of your loss. This could cause you to potentially lose your policy because the insurance company loses money on the accident that you have caused. Report your claim as soon as possible and realize that your rates will only be affected if you are at fault and in that case the coverage you have is worth every penny.

3. There are certain benefits that you retain by being a member of an auto insurance company that could help you out when it comes to the repairs to the vehicle you drive every day. Auto insurance companies generally make deals with body shops that will benefit both sides of the agreement. The insurance company provides customers to the body shop and the body shop guarantees the work that they do for the entire time you own the vehicle. This generally doesn’t apply if you have the insurance but don’t file a claim in relation to the damages you are having repaired. Filing a claim will help you get these advantages and act as a safeguard against the potential failure of the repair process. You always want your insurance company to be on your side with faulty repairs on your vehicle.
